DAVID MARSH

Following experience of tasks in over 40 countries, contributing to over 150 publications, and receiving 7 degrees and awards from England, Estonia, Finland and Spain, he is a founding figure involved with the launch of CLIL. In recent years most of his work has involved designing and managing change processes in education from early years learning to higher education. In 2017 “Enseñando en inglés la Educación Superior: La internacionalización en la práctica” was published by the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education, and his current work-in-progress is The Children of Cyberspace: Towards a New Understanding due for publication in 2018.

XAVIER GISBERT

Xavier Gisbert da Cruz has a degree in French Studies at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and during his career he  has been a French teacher, Counselor of Education at the Spanish Embassy in London, Director of the Regional Center for Innovation and Training “Las Acacias”, Director General for Quality Improvement of Teaching at the Department of Education of Madrid Regional Government, Director General of Evaluation and Territorial Cooperation at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, and Counselor of Education at the Spanish Embassy in Washington. He has been responsible for the implementation of the Bilingual Program in Primary and Secondary Education in the Region of Madrid, as well as for the language assistants’ program and the specific in-training courses for teachers working in bilingual schools. He was the Director of the International Conference on Bilingual Education EICE 2016. He is the author of several publications and has given many lectures and taken part in numerous conferences. At present he is the President of the Association on Bilingual Teaching.

EMILY SPINELLI

PhD from Ohio University, is the Executive Director of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) and Emeritus Professor at Michigan-Dearborn University where she taught Spanish language, literature and culture and was as well a teacher trainer in foreign languages. She is the author of several university publications and articles in different scholarly journals. She is a frequent lecturer at national and international congresses and has given numerous talks in schools and universities in the USA. She has been very active in professional organizations and served as President of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), AATSP President and publisher of Foreign Language Annals. She has been awarded with several prizes including the prestigious Florence Steiner for Leadership in the Teaching of Foreign Languages prize and the Orden de Isabel la Católica medal given by the Government of Spain.

MARÍA LUISA PÉREZ CAÑADO

Dr. María Luisa Pérez Cañado is Associate Professor at the Department of English Philology of the University of Jáen, Spain, where she is also Vicedean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education. Her research interests are in Applied Linguistics, bilingual education, and new technologies in language teaching. Her work has appeared in over 90 scholarly journals (among them, International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, European Journal of Teacher Education, Computer Assisted Language Learning, Language and Intercultural Communication, Language Awareness, International Journal of Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching, Applied Linguistics Review, or Language, Culture, and Curriculum) and edited volumes published by Elsevier, Peter Lang, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, Multilingual Matters, Wiley-Blackwell, Routledge, DeGruyter, or Springer, among others. She is also author or editor of 10 books on the interface of second language acquisition and second language teaching, and editor or member of the editorial board of 16 international journals. María Luisa has given over 100 lectures and talks in Belgium, Poland, Germany, Portugal, Ireland, England, Mexico, Brazil, China, The United States, and all over Spain.

She has been in charge of the program for the implementation of the European Credit System in English Philology at the University of Jaén and is currently coordinating the first intercollegiate MA degree on bilingual education and CLIL in Spain. She is also coordinating two governmentally-funded research projects on the effects of CLIL in monolingual contexts (FFI2012-32221 and P12-HUM-2348, funded by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad and the Junta de Andalucía, respectively) and has been granted the Ben Massey Award for the quality of her scholarly contributions regarding issues that make a difference in higher education.

SANTIAGO WOOD

Dr. Santiago Wood, Ed.D, is the Executive Director of the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) in the greater metropolitan area of Washington, DC. Since 1972 NABE is the exclusive national professional organization devoted to representing Bilingual and Dual Language Learners and Bilingual Education professionals. NABE has affiliates in more than 20 states, China, Spain and Mexico that collectively work with many education leaders and policymakers to represent the more than 4.6 million Bilingual/Dual Language English Learners, teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, administrators, professors, and other professionals focusing on effective research and practice related to bilingual education.

Dr. Santiago Wood is a 30-year veteran educational leader in the field of bilingual education. He earned his doctorate degree, with distinction, from the University of San Francisco in Multicultural, and also holds earned degrees in Business Administration, Finance and International Trade at the Bachelors and Masters levels and an Honorary JD from Armstrong University in Berkeley. He also earned post-graduate Certification in Urban Superintendent Leadership and Administration from the Superintendents Academy at Harvard University Kennedy School of Business.

Dr. Santiago Wood has served successfully in various capacities in the Pre-K-20 environment as a bilingual teacher-aide, bilingual teacher, central office administrator, assistant professor, university trustee and superintendent of schools in several urban school districts in California and abroad. He has written, published and presented on many international trade, bilingual and dual language topics. For the past five years he has been directing and participating in Dual Language Institutes in Puerto Rico, Spain and China. Dr. Santiago Wood is a Second-generation immigrant and native of Panama, with roots in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, Brazil and the US.

Included among his many distinctions the Order of “Santa Maria La Antigua” Award from the King of Spain, League of United Latin American Citizens Hispanic Educator of the Year Award. Dr. Santiago Wood was appointed to the Presidential National Education Advisory Commission on Schools of Choice. He is also the recipient of several citations for Educational Excellence and Community Development.

VIRGINIA VINUESA BENÍTEZ

Virginia Vinuesa Benítez has a degree in English Philology from the University of Granada and a PhD from Rey Juan Carlos University. With more than 25 years of experience in the field of education, she has developed her professional career in all levels of education, from Infant Education to Higher Education, both in Spain and the United Kingdom. She is currently Professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid where she teaches the Didactics of English Language Teaching in Infant and Primary Education degrees, as well as in the Master’s of Teachers of Secondary Education and in the Master’s of Bilingual Education in Primary schools and English Language Immersion. She has actively participated in the methodological in-service training of teachers of bilingual schools in the Region of Madrid giving CLIL courses. She also collaborates with CEU Cardenal Herrera de Valencia in the Master’s Degree in Bilingual English and Spanish Education. She has given presentations in Spain and the United States and her area of research focuses on the field of bilingual education and CLIL.
She is Vice-President of the Association of Bilingual Education and co-editor of the American Journal of Research and Practice.

JOSEFINA VILLAMIL TINAJERO

Josefina (Josie) Villamil Tinajero, currently a Professor of Bilingual Education, immediate past Dean of the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and current Special Advisor to the Vice President for Research, has dedicated her entire professional career to enhancing educational opportunities for Spanish-speaking students in the United States. She is a leading scholar, author and an advocate on issues of equity and excellence for culturally and linguistically diverse children and families. Her rich experience and knowledge about effective educational reform and the roles of culture and language in school achievement have been key vehicles for affecting positive change in school districts across the U.S. and in the U.S.-Mexico border region. Her extensive publication record includes a focus on literacy and biliteracy for Spanish speaking children, school-university partnerships, and school-community collaboration with a focus on linguistically and culturally diverse populations. She has pioneered the development of instructional materials for Spanish speaking students in the U.S. As an author for Macmillan-McGraw-Hill, Mc-Graw Hil, Hampton-Brown and National Geographic Publishing Companies, she has developed instructional materials featuring authentic literature from well-known authors of Spanish children’s literature used by school districts throughout the United States.

She has served on numerous state and national boards, including the Board of Directors of the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) and the Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE). She has served as President of both.

Dr. Tinajero’s commitment to cultural diversity and gender equity has been recognized and rewarded by numerous professional and community organizations at the national, state and local levels. Among others, in 2016 she received the prestigious Ohtli Award from the Government of Mexico, the Humanitarian Award from LULAC and was named one of 20 Most Influential Hispanics in the U. S. by U. S. Hispanic Business Magazine, and selected the Texas Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

Olga R. Sanmartín es la redactora especializada en Educación del diario EL MUNDO, periódico para el que trabaja desde 2002 tanto para su edición de papel como para la web. Disfruta enormemente haciendo estudios comparados de los borradores legislativos y poniendo de manifiesto las contradicciones en las que incurren los políticos. Alumna de Latín. Cada vez menos convencida de que esto del pacto educativo vaya a salir bien.

PILAR ÁLVAREZ MOLERO

Journalist with 15 years of experience many news outlets. Currently, the Education correspondent of the Spanish newspaper EL PAÍS. Bachelors degree in Journalism from University of Seville, and Masters degree in Journalism in Universidad Autónoma de Madrid / EL PAÍS. During these years she has reported on the implementation of the current education law (LOMCE) in Spain, interviewed many high profile policymakers, experts and innovators in the Education world (like Ken Robinson, the former and the current Education ministers in Spain, José Ignacio Wert and Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, the founder of the multiple intelligences theory Howard Gardner, the phylosopher Zygmunt Bauman and many others. She also has reported on international stories about innovation in schools all around the world, and other learning-related news. She speaks fluent Italian and English.

JESÚS GARCÍA LABORDA

Jesús García Laborda es Doctor en Filología Inglesa y Doctor Europeo en Didáctica de la Lengua por la UCM, y tiene dos masters en Didáctica de ESL (U. Georgia) y Lengua y Literatura extranjeras (U. Wisconsin). Actualmente es Director del Departamento de Filología Moderna de la UAH y Editor de la Revista de Didáctica Encuentro y Co-Editor de CALL EJ así como miembro del comité de redacción de Revista de Educación. Su investigación se ha centrado en la enseñanza y evaluación del inglés para la PAU y la EvAU. Asimismo es presidente interino del Centro de Conocimiento AWER (Chipre). Ha publicado más de 200 trabajos de investigación y docencia siendo frecuentemente ponente internacional. En la actualidad se encuentra inmerso en varios proyectos sobre los límites de la educación bilingüe y el papel de los alumnos inmigrantes en la asignatura de lengua extranjera, tecnología en exámenes de inglés para la universidad y tecnologías en el aprendizaje.

FRANK O’CONNOR

Frank O’Connor lleva 25 años trabajando en la enseñanza del inglés y en la formación de profesores en Inglaterra, Portugal y España. Desde 1997, trabaja para el British Council en España y actualmente dirige varios centros del British Council en la Comunidad de Madrid. Licenciado en Filología Inglesa de la Universidad de Leeds, tiene un Masters en Lingüística de la Universidad de Birmingham. Sus intereses profesionales se centran en la formación de profesores y el uso de corpus lingüísticos en la enseñanza.

JAVIER VILLORIA PRIETO

Es profesor de lengua inglesa en el departamento de Didáctica de la Lengua y la Literatura de la universidad de Granada. Imparte docencia en la Facultad de CC. de la Educación desde el año 2001, donde ha sido vicedecano de Relaciones Internacionales e Investigación desde el 2008 hasta el 2015, y desde ese año hasta el momento presenta es el decano.

Destacar que es miembro fundador de la revista de investigación Porta Linguarum desde su fundación en 2004, y actualmente director de la misma.

Sus intereses de investigación se centran en la enseñanza bilingüe en educación superior, enseñanza de lenguas desde una perspectiva histórica, y historiografía de la traducción.

She has developed a long professional career in the field of education and has worked for the national governement and for the regional government of Madrid where she had the responsibility of implementing education policies, especially in developing bilingual education projects.

Claire Manners studied English Literature at Lancaster University and gained her PGCE from Bristol University. A teacher and trainer with over  20 years’ experience, she has worked both in the UK and in Spain, teaching children and adults, in bilingual and EFL classrooms and is particularly interested in using effective teaching strategies to enable secondary students to learn to see themselves as true readers and writers.

Lucía Ábalos Álvarez is a Deputy Head teacher at the bilingual primary state school Luis Cernuda in Madrid and has been a bilingual programme coordinator for more than seven years. She is also a university professor at the UCJC (English Teacher Training Degree) and at the UFV (Bilingual Education Master).

She has thirteen years of teaching and coordinating experience in bilingual primary schools both in the UK and in Spain.

Licenciado en Ciencias Matemáticas (Estadística e Investigación Operativa), amplía su formación con el Máster en Dirección de Empresas (ICADE) y un Máster en Dirección de Centros de Enseñanza (ICCE), estudios en los que profundizó en las técnicas de liderazgo y estrategia.

Comenzó su vida profesional ejerciendo de profesor de Matemáticas, posteriormente impartió Técnicas de Liderazgo y Planificación Estratégica en el Máster de Dirección de Empresas del ICADE.

Empresario desde los 22 años, Consejero y Directivo en empresas y proyectos, tanto nacionales como internacionales, privados y público-privados de diferentes sectores: industria, promoción suelos industriales, consultoría, formación, ocio, producción y edición, arte, medioambiente y TIC. Viene desarrollando su actividad internacional en países como Portugal, Marruecos, Polonia, China, Colombia y México.

A partir de 1997 amplía su actividad colaborando con instituciones en defensa del movimiento empresarial. Desde 2001 es Presidente de AEDHE, ha sido Vicepresidente de CEIM y Miembro de la Junta Directiva de CEOE. Ha creado y preside los Cluster: “Plataforma del Español”. Es Vocal del Consejo de Ciencia y Tecnología de la Comunidad de Madrid y miembro del Consejo Asesor de la Federación española de ALUMNI, entre otras representaciones institucionales.

En los últimos 5 años ha participado en la creación de más de 25 y mentorizado a más de 150 proyectos nacionales e internacionales de jóvenes emprendedores.

Su actividad institucional público-privada le ha convertido en un Experto en: Desarrollo Local, Desarrollo Regional, Creación y Gestión de Organismos público-privados, Creación de Consorcios y Cluster, Transferencia Universidad-Empresa, y en proyectos de emprendimiento e internacionalización.

Mis líneas de investigación se centran en el Aprendizaje Integrado de Contenidos y Lenguas Extranjeras (AICLE), la educación bilingüe, la sociolingüística, la enseñanza del inglés, y los Estudios de Traducción. Desde el año 2012 coordino el Máster en Enseñanza Integrada de Lengua Inglesa y Contenidos para Educación Infantil y Primaria de la Universidad de Oviedo.
